Jed’s story: onwards and upwards

“I recently I decided to take a break from my medical education and am now studying business and extending my rehabilitation and recovery. In recognition of my persistence and perseverance in my studies, the University of Newcastle has awarded me with an Associate Degree in Health, of which I am very proud and appreciative.

In June this year I won an encouragement award at the Hunter TAFE Foundation Awards presentation in recognition of my efforts in my business studies course. I continue to cover a diverse range of rehabilitation with Headstart. I have regular visits from Headstart Support Workers, and attend Speech Therapy, Psychology and Music Therapy. I have a greater ownership of who I am as a person, as well as being able to have my own independence.

I am steadily recovering from my trauma and I understand that everyone needs to be a mature lifelong learner, including those of us who have experienced a severe injury.”

I really appreciate the support and guidance from the Headstart team as well as my multiple therapists.
